Sonas™ apc is a training and resource organisation centred on non-pharmacological intervention in dementia care.

We train people to carry out therapeutic activities with older people who have dementia or any condition that brings about significant communication impairment. Dementia is an umbrella term, the two main types being Alzheimer's and Vascular dementia.

The Sonas Programme, our bespoke psychosocial therapeutic communications activity, is an effective, evidence-based meaningful activity for people who have significant communication impairment, primarily as a result of dementia. Research supports the benefits for participants, including significant improvements in communication and mood, and lower levels of depression for participants. The aim is to activate each participant's potential for communication. more

We are also committed to the introduction of leading International evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions and psychosocial therapeutic activities to support person-centred dementia care. Examples from our latest International Dementia Trainer Workshop series include Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) and Green Candle Dance. more

Sonas™ apc also provides Residential Care Centres, Day Care and carers with Spiritual care resources. Our current spirituality resources are Ciúnas and Serenity more

The Sonas™ Programme

The Sonas™ Programme is an effective, evidence-based therapeutic activity for people who have significant communication impairment, primarily as a result of dementia. The programme involves cognitive, sensory and social stimulation. The aim is to activate each participant’s potential for communication, thereby enhancing quality of life.

There are group and individual sessions. The Sonas Individual Multi-sensory Session (SIMS) is an adaptation of the Sonas Group Session for use on a one-to-one basis.

Are you a Nurse, Care Assistant other Health or Social Care Professional who is caring for older people with a dementia? The Sonas & SIMS Training Programme is a 3-day course, delivered by Sonas apc Tutors. There are frequent training courses across Ireland eg Dublin, Galway and Cork. Sonas™ apc Ltd launches licence for Sonas™ practitioners in Ireland

This is an important notice for you if you are already implementing the Sonas™ programme. Sonas apc launched a new quality mark in May 2012 for the Sonas™ Programme. Sonas™ Quality Standards have been established to underpin a new Licensing and Registration system for the delivery of the Sonas™ programme
